With the easing of the lockdown restrictions, our little village has come to life in the mornings with people walking, jogging or cycling. Unfortunately the beach and the river still remain “no-go” zones, but the fresh misty morning air and the exercise have done wonders for the spirits.
Our long-awaited first winter rains have fallen, recording between 20mm and 30mm in our farming area. The Langeberg mountain peak at Heidelberg was also white with snow and night-time temperatures have dropped considerably. Our Proteas are almost in full bloom and we also patiently await the arrival of our winter entertainment from Antarctica, the Southern Right whales.
The four restaurants are open for deliveries to the locals but, no holiday makers are allowed in Witsand yet under the current restrictions.
While the Western Cape still records the highest number of Covid-19 infections, the Hessequa Municipal region, consisting of the following towns; Witsand, Slangrivier, Heidelberg, Riversdale, Stillbaai, Jongensfontein, Albertinia and Gouritsmond, have only seen eight Covid-19 infections and for the better part we remain optimistic for the further easing of the lockdown restrictions.
