July has brought us some much-needed rain and on 13 July 2020 the Hessequa region’s dam levels were standing at:
Korentepoort Dam @ 81.92%
Duivenhoks Dam @ 100%
Olive Grove Dam @ 72%
Jongensfontein Dam @ 100%
Of course, the snow that has fallen on all our surrounding mountain peaks will further increase these levels as it melts.
The Theewaterskloof Dam is the largest feeder dam into the Breede River and was established in 1978 with a capacity of 480 million cubic meters and is Cape Town’s main water storage dam. It is responsible for 41% of the water used by a population of over 4 million people. Below average rainfall since 2015 saw Theewaterskloof Dam drop to critical levels but the good winter rains have seen the dam’s capacity increase to 70.8%.
